Local News

UTEP Ends Women’s Tennis 🎾

After 40 years, UTEP is saying goodbye to its women’s tennis program. The university says rising costs and the lack of an on-campus facility made it too difficult to continue. While the decision wasn’t easy, officials say they’ll now focus resources on other sports. Current tennis players can keep their scholarships or transfer, and coaches will get support, too. It’s the first time UTEP has cut a sports team since men’s tennis in 1999.

New DWI Task Force Makes 36 Arrests 🚓

El Paso County just rolled out a brand-new DWI Task Force—and they wasted no time. Over Easter weekend, deputies teamed up with local agencies and made 36 arrests tied to drunk driving, drugs, weapons, and more. Sheriff Oscar Ugarte says this crackdown is just the beginning, and he’s pushing to make the team permanent. Bottom line: if you're driving under the influence in El Paso County, the sheriff’s office is officially on your tail.

Aquatic Center Closed ⚠️

Heads up! Pat O’Rourke Recreation and Aquatic Center will close for maintenance starting April 21. No end date yet, so check out other city centers at www.elpasotexas.gov/parks until then.
