Local News
Wind Storm Returns 🌬️
Hold onto your hats, El Paso! Today and Wednesday, winds are cranking up to 60 mph, causing a massive dust-up, literally. Expect a wild, dusty ride with reduced visibility. Stay safe and watch for those gusts!
Sunset Amphitheater Expanding, Maybe 🎭
El Paso City Council is talking about the Sunset Amphitheater again! They're thinking of giving more land, 20 acres now, for a fancier design that lets us party all year round.
They’re also sorting out who handles parking and when to officially sign off on the deal. Though a bit delayed, officials say it is still on track, even though it may not be ready until 2026 or later. I’m excited to hear more about this as it will hopefully bring more big name artists and events to El Paso.
Major Traffic Upgrades 🚦
El Paso's getting a major traffic upgrade! The city plans to install new traffic signals and make road improvements at several busy intersections to keep both pedestrians and drivers safer.
They'll start soon and aim to wrap up by summer 2026. It's all about preventing accidents and making traffic flow smoothly. These changes, costing $3.4 million from the Community Progress Bond, will make getting around town a lot safer and more orderly. And boy do we need that with our drivers.
Socorro ISD Paying Teachers To Resign 👩🏫
Socorro Independent School District, grappling with a $38 million deficit, is encouraging 100 near-retirement employees to resign with a $2,500 incentive. Despite aiming for significant savings, only about 50 have opted in, reducing expected savings to around $3 million.
To further address the financial shortfall, SISD is exploring raising school taxes and selling district-owned properties. Additionally, they're planning a $35 million short-term loan to cover employee salaries and operational costs through August. It’s a mess and I hope they can pull out of it.
EPISD Registration Begins 🎒
El Paso ISD opens registration for the 2025-26 school year today. They offer innovative STEM, STEAM, arts, and environmental programs, full-day pre-K, Montessori classes, and tech-oriented P-TECH programs for career-focused learning. Check out the details and register here. Get ready for an exciting school year!
