Local News
El Paso Air Quality Among Worst In Nation ⚠️
On March 1st, El Paso and the border region experienced some of the worst air quality in years after the dust storm hit. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in the area was dangerously high, with El Paso reaching 406 and Santa Teresa nearing 1,000. Most other large cities in the country were under 100.
Dr. Fahad Omar from Las Palmas Medical Center warned that prolonged exposure could cause lung damage. He advised avoiding outdoor activities when air quality is poor and suggested wearing masks, especially for children and people with allergies. For me personally, I stay inside as much as possible when the air is this bad. We still have a few more days of dust so make sure to stay safe and use caution.
For Sale! 💰
The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) plans to sell four federal buildings in El Paso: the R.E. Thomason Courthouse, Richard C. White Federal Building, and the US Business Services Good Neighbor Buildings A and B.
These buildings are no longer essential for government operations, and the GSA aims to reduce maintenance costs and reinvest in more efficient spaces. It feels like big moves are being made across the city so it’ll be interesting to see what actually happens.
El Paso Electric Offering Free Tree Trimmings 🌳
El Paso Electric (EPE) is offering free tree-trimming services to help prevent power outages and safety hazards, especially with the strong winds affecting the Borderland. Trees close to power lines can cause electrical fires, disruptions, and injuries. If you see a tree that is growing near a powerline, you can report it by calling (915) 877-3400 in El Paso or (575) 523-7591 in Las Cruces and they will inspect it.
They also recommend following safety guidelines, such as maintaining a 10-foot distance from power lines and hiring professional arborists for trimming. For assistance or more info, visit EPE’s website here.
New Traffic Lights On The East Side 🚦
New traffic lights are coming to far East El Paso! The intersections at RC Poe & Tierra Este, Pebble Hills & John Hayes, Ventana & Tierra Este, Edgemere & Tim Foster, and Edgemere & Tierra Dorada will all be getting updated signals. This improvement, announced by City Representative Ivan Niño, aims to boost safety and traffic flow in the area.
🚦 New Traffic Lights Coming to District 5! 🚦
We're improving public safety and enhancing traffic control in our community! New traffic signals are being installed to help with traffic mitigation and ensure safer, more efficient roads for everyone.
