Local News
El Paso Has A Population Growth Problem
El Paso County’s population grew by just 0.1% in 2024, the slowest among Texas’ top 10 counties. Factors include a continuing outflow of residents, fewer births, and increased deaths since the COVID-19 pandemic. However, international migration helped offset some of the losses, contributing to small population growth.
This stagnant population growth has been going on for several years now and is one of the reasons we have seen school closures in the area. Hopefully, we can turn this trend around soon.
Police Department Accepting Applications 👮
The El Paso Police Department is now accepting applications for the Police Trainee 141 Academy class starting in January 2026. To apply, candidates must meet requirements like being 21 by graduation, having a valid driver’s license, and no major criminal history. For more details and to apply, visit the EPPD website here.
El Paso Makes Deal With AT&T
El Paso County has partnered with AT&T for a $3.9 million deal to bring fiber internet to over 1,000 households in underserved areas. This project will provide high-speed internet to more than 50 colonias, helping bridge the digital divide. The project is set to be completed by December 2026.
