🌞 City Says No To House Parties

Good morning, El Paso. If you need a new mattress, you might be in luck. A local furniture store is giving El Pasoans the chance to win a free mattress, but of course there’s a catch.

In today’s Border City Buzz:

  • Texas Tech Offers $10K Degrees

  • Los Lonely Boys Coming To El Paso

  • Karaoke Bar Closing

Let’s get to it.

Around Town

City Says No To House Parties 🙅

El Paso homeowners, if you’ve been dreaming of turning your backyard into the next hot party spot—think again.

The City of El Paso wants to remind residents that renting out your home or pool for events is a no-go. No DJs, no pop-up wedding venues, and definitely no Airbnb-style pool parties.

City officials clarified the rules, stating residential properties are strictly off-limits for entertainment venues. The only exception? Private swimming lessons.

Enforcement will be ramping up, with officers patrolling on weekends to catch rule-breakers in action.

Bottom line: keep the house parties personal, or risk a visit from Code Enforcement.

Texas Tech Offers $10K Degrees 👩‍🎓

Texas Tech is making big moves in El Paso, bringing an affordable way for locals to finish their bachelor's degrees without breaking the bank.

Their new $10K Degree Completion Program is designed for working adults and non-traditional students, offering a mix of online courses and credit for prior learning experiences.

After completing micro-credential courses, students can enroll in either a Bachelor of Arts in University Studies or a Bachelor of Science in Leadership Studies, finishing their degrees online.

The first-of-its-kind program in El Paso launches March 29 in a hybrid format at TTUHSC El Paso. For more details, visit Texas Tech’s website here.

Want A Free Mattress? 🛏️

Household Furniture is making Super Bowl Sunday a little more interesting for El Paso shoppers. If the Kansas City Chiefs win by seven points or more, anyone who buys a Tempur-Pedic item at their stores on Wednesday, February 7, gets it completely free.

It’s a bold bet, but not their first rodeo—they’ve run similar promotions before, usually tied to the Dallas Cowboys.

But after the Cowboys' recent struggles, they’re rolling the dice on the Chiefs instead. If you’re in the market for a new mattress and feeling lucky, this might be your chance to sleep like a champion. Go here to find a store near you.

Karaoke Bar Closing 🎤

Duets Karaoke Bar, a longtime go-to for belting out ballads and off-key anthems in El Paso, is singing its swan song.

After seven years of late-night singalongs and unforgettable (sometimes regrettable) performances, Duets announced it will be closing its doors at the end of this week.

The announcement, made via Facebook, caught many longtime patrons by surprise. In response, fans flooded the comments with gratitude, sharing fond memories of unforgettable performances with friends and family.

If you’ve ever wanted one last shot at nailing that power ballad, now’s the time—because after this weekend, the mic drops for good.
