🌞El Paso Halts Electric Rate Hike
El Paso Electric wanted to crank up your bill by $22 a month, but the City Council just hit pause. Unanimously voting to intervene, they’ve delayed the proposed $93 million rate hike for 90 days—giving time to dig through thousands of pages of fine print and (hopefully) fight for more fair rates.
Good morning, El Paso. Our electric bill might not be going up after all. There’s also a really neat play happening this week which I’ll tell you about below.
In today’s Border City Buzz:
I-10 Nightly Closures Ahead
Love, Drama, & Tragedy
Young Minds, Big Symphony
Let’s get to it.

El Paso Halts Electric Rate Hike ⚡
El Paso Electric wanted to crank up your bill by $22 a month, but the City Council just hit pause.
Unanimously voting to intervene, they’ve delayed the proposed $93 million rate hike for 90 days—giving time to dig through thousands of pages of fine print and (hopefully) fight for more fair rates.
City Attorney Karla Nieman says experts will comb through every detail, ensuring residents aren’t paying more than necessary.
With nearly $189 million saved in past cases, the city isn’t new to this game. For now, take a deep breath—your electric bill isn’t skyrocketing just yet.

Things To Do
Love, Drama, & Tragedy 🎭
Get ready for a fresh, immersive take on Roméo & Juliette! El Paso Opera is bringing this classic love story to life at St. Rogers Depot, where you’ll be right in the middle of the action.
It’s not your typical opera house setup—this version pulls you into the passion, heartbreak, and drama like never before.
Sung in French with English and Spanish supertitles, the show runs on February 4th and 6th. With an incredible cast and live orchestra, it’s a must-see for opera lovers and first-timers alike. Snag your tickets here: Get Tickets.
Young Minds, Big Symphony 🎶
The El Paso Symphony Orchestra’s 4th Annual Young People’s Concerts are set to fill the Abraham Chavez Theatre with soaring melodies and excited students from February 4-6.
Led by Nathan Black, with performances by Annie Pennies, Vinny Juarez, and Samantha Davalos, this free event will introduce over 9,000 5th graders to the magic of live orchestral music.
It’s a chance for kids to experience the power of a symphony—some for the very first time. With music, storytelling, and interactive fun, this concert just might spark a lifelong love for the arts!
