Local News

🏫 Canutillo ISD Cutting Workforce

Canutillo Independent School District is facing a challenging situation with a $5.8 million budget shortfall. To manage this, the district has decided to reduce the number of staff but has made sure to keep important programs like counseling and the Montessori Program running.

They are hoping that the cuts will reduce the deficit down to $2.3 million, with more work needing to be done. The deficit was caused by factors such as lower state funding, increasing costs due to inflation, and higher costs for employee health insurance. Employees of the district will be contacted soon regarding their positions with resources being provided to those being let go.

⚡ El Paso Electric Gives Out Customers Credits

Good news, El Paso Electric customers! From April to June 2025, everyone will get a little extra cash back on their electric bills, ranging from $8.24 to $15.05 each month. This refund is thanks to a fuel cost adjustment, meaning it’s just balancing out what the company paid for fuel. Don’t spend it all in one place now.

🪖 New Immigration Facility At Fort Bliss

Fort Bliss is getting a new immigration facility. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll announced it during his visit, explaining that this facility would handle lots of border operations and help prevent Border Patrol from getting too overwhelmed.

It's part of efforts to manage immigration more effectively, especially with Fort Bliss's strategic location making it ideal for such operations. No specific details on its operation or timeline were provided yet so we’ll keep you updated when we learn more.
